Short History
Nartayantala Mission High School is situated in Sunamganj, near the remote border of Bangladesh at the foothills of the Indian State of Meghalaya. This institution began in 1972, sparked by the concern and dedication of Christian Missionaries who bought a plot of land in the area. The primary aim of the priests was to provide education to the poor and underprivileged children, particularly from the Garo community, who otherwise had limited access to schooling. The establishment of the school was not just a missionary effort but a community endeavor. Locals, inspired by the missionaries' commitment, contributed land to support the school's foundation. This collective effort allowed the school to stand proudly on 2 acres of land, supplemented by additional agricultural land donated by the locals, which helps support the school’s needs. Nartayantala Mission High School has since grown into one of the best educational institutions in the region, setting a high standard for academic excellence and community involvement. The nearest alternative school is 7 kilometers away in Bangaon, making Nartayantala a vital educational hub for the surrounding communities. In 2021, the Brothers of Holy Cross took over the administration of the school, continuing its legacy of providing quality education rooted in Christian values. Their involvement has further strengthened the institution, ensuring that it remains a beacon of hope and opportunity for the marginalized children of the area.
