Short History

St. Joseph's School of Industrial Trade was established in 1954 on 19th March. The School was founded by Brother Andrew Stephen, C.S.C and ever since run by the Holy Cross Brothers. The institution is situated at 32 Shah Shahib Lane, Narinda in the old town. Brother Jude Costello then the superior of the Brothers bought this piece of land from a rich Hindu gentleman. Brother Andrew Stephas, C.S.C was an American Brother and came to Bangladesh in 1926. He felt the need for a vocational institution especially considering the present context of those days. On 19th March in 1954 St. Joseph School of Industrial Trade was established. The school started its academic year from 8th June with only five students in a temporary workshop. From the very beginning the school bears all its expenses from the works done in the school's workshop. The school underwent modified construction in 1959 and in 1960 Brother Andrew brought modern machinery from the United States. The present building was designed by Brother Donald Smith, C.S.C in 1968 who was then the principal. The rules and regulations of this school were formulated by a German teacher called George Otte. During the liberation war the school was temporarily shut down. A lot of people took shelter in the School. After the Liberation war the school reopened in 1972. Over the course of time the institution flourished like a tree and grown into a deep-rooted institution. At present there are 145 students studying in the school.
