Short History
St. Nicholas School & College, located in Nagari, Kaligonj, Gazipur, has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. Established initially as a lower primary school before 1910, it was founded with the support of Portuguese priests and a small grant from the then District Board. The school began with classes only up to the second grade, under the guidance of Babu Anurup Chandra Roy, who played a significant role as the first headteacher.
On September 1, 1910, recognizing the need for further educational opportunities in the area, the local church authorities upgraded the institution to a lower secondary English school. At that time, there were very few educational institutions in the region, making St. Nicholas a vital center for learning. By 1911, the school had expanded its enrollment, attracting students from various communities, including Christian, Hindu, and Muslim backgrounds, reflecting its inclusive approach to education.
The institution's progress continued, with a dedicated team of educators and administrators contributing to its development. Notably, Rev. Father J. Jorqato, who served as the Secretary of the management committee, was instrumental in the school's early growth, earning praise for his tireless efforts. Despite the challenging transportation conditions of the era, especially during the rainy season, the school stood out with its solid infrastructure, featuring a brick building and proper sanitation facilities. Today, St. Nicholas School & College continues its mission by the administration of Holy Cross Brothers providing quality education, nurturing generations of students, and maintaining a legacy of academic excellence and community service.
