Honoring the Legacy of Late Mr. William Balsamo at BHOTS
Today, the Bottomley Home Orphanage Technical School (BHOTS) celebrated the birthday of the late Mr. William Balsamo, a man whose generosity continues to shine as a beacon of hope for countless young lives. His profound love for the vulnerable children of the orphanage inspired him to leave a lasting legacy, one that continues to nourish both the hearts and minds of the students. The celebration was attended by a wonderful gathering of Holy Cross Brothers, Sisters, and several well-wishers, all united in the spirit of gratitude for Mr. Balsamo’s incredible contribution. The day began with a special Mass, offered by Father Joyonto Costa, the Parish Priest of Holy Rosary Church. His words reminded us of the deep connection between faith and service, calling upon all present to honor Mr. Balsamo’s life by continuing to serve the most vulnerable members of our society. Brother Ripon James Gomes, CSC, the Provincial of St. Joseph Province, delivered a heartfelt address to the students and staff of BHOTS. He spoke of the deep appreciation the Holy Cross community holds for Mr. Balsamo’s lasting impact on the school, a ministry that continues to reflect the core mission of the Brothers of Holy Cross. Brother Ripon praised the dedication of the Brothers, Sisters, and lay collaborators who have worked tirelessly to sustain and grow this vital institution. He encouraged the students to embrace the opportunities made possible by the school, highlighting the unique blend of technical education and moral development offered at BHOTS. The establishment of BHOTS was the result of a unique collaboration among the Brothers, Priests, and Sisters of Holy Cross, inspired by the vision of Father Basil Anthony Moreau, CSC. Today, while the Brothers remain the sole custodians of the school, the spirit of unity and shared mission continues to define its purpose. The celebration today was not just a remembrance of Mr. Balsamo’s generosity but also a testament to the power of collective effort in bringing about meaningful change. Though challenges remain in sustaining operations and acquiring necessary equipment for classes, the spirit of resilience and hope continues to drive the school’s mission. Thanks to the contributions of individuals like Mr. Balsamo, BHOTS has become more than just a technical school; it is a place where dreams are nurtured, where vulnerable children find refuge, and where education becomes a pathway to a better future. We extend our deepest thanks to everyone connected to this ministry—the Holy Cross Brothers who continue to serve with unwavering dedication, the Sisters and Priests who helped lay the foundation, and all the well-wishers who support this noble cause. As we reflect on the life of Mr. William Balsamo, we are reminded that each of us has the power to make a difference in the lives of others. Together, we walk in faith, service, and gratitude, committed to the mission of transforming lives through education and love.
